Sorry it's been so long since we posted an update. Life seems to have gotten busy and blogging just got forgotten about. We've been good. Owen is running around, talking up a storm, and has definitely entered the TWOs...as in, he's Mr. Independent and has learned to throw a good tantrum to get what he wants! His favorite phrases to say these days are "no way," "milk kiss" (followed by "water kiss" then "doggy kiss"...and they're all sloppy!), and "help me" when he's gotten himself into a jam, which is pretty much all the time!

Drew was in Albuquerque this past weekend for his 15 year high school reunion. Owen and I had a great time exploring Bend and hitting the town. This upcoming weekend we're taking Owen to Portland to see the Sesame Street Live! show--he's going to LOVE it, although Drew and I might be regretting it about 5 minutes in, which is what I'm guessing will happen! :-) June brings Telluride and Bluegrass Festival, which we can't wait for! Then just enjoying Central Oregon in the summer and the nice weather...especially since it is once again freezing here and was snowing this morning. AGAIN. We're definitely ready for a break from winter.

Our seeds are starting to sprout up that Drew and Owen started in the kitchen. Looks like we will have a plentiful harvest of onions, squash, peas, carrots and lettuce, assuming our new cold frame that Drew and his dad built works its magic in the alley! Will post pics of that soon.

We had a GREAT time in Argentina. Right now we mostly have videos of the trip because we mysteriously lost the battery for the camera somewhere in between the boat ride to Uruguay and back to Argentina. We've been pretty busy lately between Halloween (Owen was a monkey - complete with banana), swim classes, pre-school (every other week with Temple Beth Tikvah), and currently dog sitting Jackson (the golden licking Owen's face and wrestling with Otis).

Aside from horses and "doggies," monkeys are Owen's favorite animal. When Allison took him to look for costumes he saw this one and immediately starting making "ha-ha" sounds. A bonus feature of this one was that it was super warm which came in handy for the super freezing night of trick-or-treating (his first).

Otis has had a bandage on one part or another of his back paw for about a month now. First he cut the pad at the park but after that had healed, he licked most of the fur off the top of the same paw. He HATES wearing the cone with a passion so much so that he knows how to get it off by himself now.

Jackson gets to wear the cone now (mostly at night) and has a bandage on the same leg from having someone ski over his leg the day before his mom and dad left for Argentina. Needless to say, we get a lot of questions when we're out about why both dogs are bandaged up. :)

The clouds looked like they were going to open up with a ton of rain at any minute but never quite got around to it.

Grandma Linda came out for the weekend and we all went to the pumpkin patch to pick out some Halloween pumpkins. Owen got to pet a baby cow and a baby goat and go for a ride in a wheel barrow.

They had some beautiful Clydesdale's on the farm and some of the best kettle corn I can remember having.

Yep, it's October 4th, and we woke up this morning to a blanket of snow that hasn't stopped. One of the aspen trees in our front yard was bent over so far it was touching the ground, and our neighbor's apple tree fell over and got uprooted--I guess it's too early for the plants too, since none had lost their leaves yet and our yard is not looking like it was ready for winter! I did pick all of our close-to-done tomatoes earlier this week, but the rest of the garden is frozen! Owen loved it though!

Making the Most of Good Weather!

So once again, it's been awhile since we updated on here. Really, no excuses, except for we've just gotten busy and haven't had the time to sit down and do it. Drew's working hard with the beginning of school always being one of his more hectic times for tutoring services, and Allison just started her job as a university supervisor for George Fox University's MAT program--going into schools and observing student teachers in action. Owen is growing and running and talking (a little bit!) and up to all sorts of mischief! I'm amazed by how quickly he's gone from looking and acting like a baby to a little boy--complete with temper tantrums (look out if you're nearby when one of those hits!)!

Farms and Camping

Last week we visited a farm in Terrebonne. Owen loved seeing and feeding all of the animals, especially the donkeys. His FAVORITE animals were still all of the farm dogs though!

Then this past weekend we went camping with our friends Brandi, Matt & Ryan at Lava Lake, one of the Cascade Lakes. It was beautiful, and the boys had a lot of fun running around and getting FILTHY! Owen was great until it was bedtime, and then he wasn't a very happy camper anymore. Around 3 am we debated driving home and coming back in the morning to collect all of our stuff, but in the end he finally fell asleep!

This year we decided to take Otis to the 4th of July Pet Parade. It was fun, but VERY hot. Halfway through the parade we cut through the crowd and headed home, with a quick stop at the river so Otis could take a dip and Owen could chase the geese.

Then this last weekend we went to Seaside with the family. Luckily, it didn't rain until the day we were ready to leave. We enjoyed lots of candy--seafoam, caramel corn, fudge, saltwater taffy, you name it we ate it! :-)--walked on the Prom, played Fascination and Dance Dance Revolution, and just hung out. Very fun!

Here are some pictures from our recent trip to Telluride for the Bluegrass Festival. Owen had a GREAT time and met lots of interesting people!

We hiked up above Telluride and Bridal Veil Falls while grandma Franny and grandpa Petey watched Owen. There were tons of waterfalls with all of the runoff. Very pretty.

Owen is officially walking, and at times is RUNNING...especially when he sees a dog to go snuggle with! We're off to Telluride on Saturday for the Bluegrass Festival, and are excited to see Grandma Franny and Grandpa Peter, as well as Grandma Linda on our stopover in Portland.

After some wacky weather, things seem to be turning around and we've been having some cool but sunny days again here in Bend. Owen is on the move--still crawling but more and more often letting go of things, and has taken a few steps unassisted. His newest favorite pastime is to bounce, aka "dance", to music~especially to any type of reggae or the lemurs in the movie Madagascar.

Today was Owen's first big boy haircut. We went to a cute place called Sprouts, where they have fun chairs and a play area for the kids. He was a champ--no tears, and sat still for most of the cut. The hair stylist said she thinks he's going to have curly hair all over once the baby hair grows out, so we'll see!

Full Days, Sleepless Nights

First off, sorry that it's been so long since we posted an update. Life these days just seems to have gotten busy. Owen has been growing and changing a ton...he isn't walking yet, but is all over the place and into everything. He says a few words, his favorite and most frequent one being "kitty!," which he uses for both the cat and pretty much anything else he gets excited about! He also started a new swim class a couple of weeks ago and is like a fish--he LOVES the water!

This weekend we officially celebrated Owen's birthday with a brunch for family, our neighbors, and a handful of our Bendite friends. Really, there's not a great excuse for why we haven't updated lately. We were traveling for a bit, and have just been pretty busy. Today is Drew's 32nd birthday, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY DREW! Owen is getting ready to crawl--he pulls himself all over the place by his arms and sometimes uses his legs--and has his top front two teeth just popping through finally. Maybe now we'll all start to get more sleep!

Mt. Bachelor, that is! This weekend we took Owen on his first trip up to the mountain to go tubing at the snow park. He hung out at the bottom while we took turns on the rope tow and flying down the hill. Despite not getting to go down, Owen still had fun checking out the scene and "chillin'" in his baby tube! He was pretty bundled up, so we joked that he was the kid on "The Christmas Story" movie who is so wrapped up he can't move his arms! :-)

Tonight is the 5th night of Hanukkah, but we started things off early by driving to Portland for Auntie Debbie's annual Hanukkah bash, which she hosted before Grandma Linda left for Thailand. As luck would have it, the first big snow storm of the year got upgraded to a blizzard and avalanche warning and hit that weekend as well, so it was a long drive over Mt. Hood.

In Bend, we have been getting a ton of snow as well. Our deck is covered with over a foot of the white stuff, and Otis loves to run through it in the yard and alley!

Albuquerque and other travels

Well we've been busy the last couple of weeks. We were in Albuquerque visiting Grandma Franny and Grandpa Peter, and then in Portland for Thanksgiving where we got to see Grandma Linda, Auntie Julie, Uncle Jeff B, and cousins Eli & Logan (who has gotten HUGE by the way!). We're going to Portland again in a couple of weeks for an early Hanukkah celebration before Grandma Linda leaves for Thailand.

Happy Halloween!!!

We had a busy and fun day yesterday. Owen dressed up as a dinosaur/lizard/dragon/monster/fill-in-the-blank--use your imagination!--and we went out on the town. We started off at a Halloween party for the mom's group we're in, but we got there at the tail end of it because Owen decided to take a two hour nap (yes, that's right, TWO hours!!!). After the party we went to Trader Joe's to pick up some groceries, and they were doing face painting and fun Halloween stuff in the store. In the afternoon, we walked down to visit some friends down the street, and then last night Owen went to bed and Drew and I passed out an unbelievable amount of candy! Owen started a Parent-Tot swim class last week, which has been a lot of fun for us. His favorite part so far has been collecting all the rubber ducks and shoving them in his mouth! :-) Our friend Konrad & his mom Angie are also in the class--last week the boys held hands in the pool, so cute! A Swinging Good Time

We're having an unusually warm week here in Bend for the end of October, so this afternoon Drew and I decided to take Owen to the park for the first time. The swing was a big hit, although it was HUGE and could have fit 2 or 3 babies in it!

Pumpkin Patch & Other Fun Things!

This weekend my mom came to Bend for a visit. We went to Yom Kippur services at the new reform synagogue in Bend, Temple Beth Tikvah (http://www.bethtikvahbend.org/index.html) and enjoyed having our very own personal chef too! :-) In Owen news, we officially have his first tooth poking through on the bottom right. We're hoping that once it comes all the way through that will give us all some much-needed sleep relief. We can always hope!

Yesterday, we all took a trip to the Pumpkin Patch. Lots of fun, but VERY cold. Oh, and we had our first SNOW of the year on Friday. Our fingers are crossed that it's not a sign of things to come for us this winter, but we'll see!

This weekend we went downtown for Fall Fest. It actually felt like fall in town too--cold and crisp mornings, smell of rain, and lots of hot drinks! Drew and I were laughing when we went to Starbucks that our latte and chai tea have overnight gone from iced to hot. We just got home from New York last night. Owen was a GREAT traveler, although he's now fully adjusted to east coast time, and was not a happy camper on the flight home which was already LONG to begin with! The past couple of weeks have been fun but hectic. First, let us just say that for those of you will young kiddos, we highly recommend NOT doing what we did! Babies are not meant for road trips. We've learned our lesson! Owen did great until about hour 6 on day one, then it was all over. Lots of crying and stops, and a LOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG drive! Needless to say, I flew home from San Diego with Owen, and Drew had a nice, peacefully quiet drive home without us! San Diego itself was really nice though, and it was great to see some old friends and visit our favorite spots. Owen loved the beach and ocean--too bad for him we moved or he could have been a total surfer beach baby!

We also had the Ostomel Family Reunion (OFR) this past weekend, which was based in Sunriver. It was so nice to see all of the family (minus a few that were missed). So, here are pictures from both the trip to San Diego, and OFR.

Jeremy asked Drew to "have the wife update the blog," so here's a shout out for Jer!

I thought now would be a good time to say adios for the week. We leave on our road trip tomorrow morning, and plan to make it to San Francisco to stay with Jen, Josh & Isabel tomorrow night. We'll continue on to San Diego on Wednesday, where we're looking forward to seeing old friends and Susan & Ricky get married (FINALLY!)! So...look for pictures next week when we get back, and cross your fingers that Owen decides to sleep A LOT on the drive! :o)
