Happy Birthday Owen!!!

It's hard to believe that it's already been one month since Owen was born. With all of our sleepless nights, you'd think that it would feel like it's been forever, but it seems like it's flown by! Here is Owen's one month benchmark photo:



Here's a new random assortment of pictures of Owen with some of his new treats, including If My Dad Were a Dog, which features a chocolate lab that looks JUST like Owen's buddy Otis!


Drew's parents are out visiting this week, which has been nice. They've cooked some great food for us, and done lots of Owen watching!

SO big!!!

The past few days, Owen has been enjoying playing in his new play yard. He especially loves it when the music is blaring and he can lay there and stare at himself in the mirror. When he gets really fired up, he kicks his legs all around and makes lots of grunting noises! Today we noticed that he's grown, and his shirts that fit last week are now crop tops ~ but he does have a pretty cute belly button! :-)

On Thursday, Owen's Grandma Franny and Grandpa Peter are coming out for a visit. He's very excited for them to hold him and love on him! I'm sure we'll have lots of pictures to post next week from their visit...

The joys of having a boy!

Yesterday we gave Owen his first "real" bath, which he seemed to enjoy. He really liked the warm water (not so much being cold when we took him out though...), and all was going well until he decided to pee on us right at the end! So far, we've been very impressed with his aim for such a little guy! :-)

Thought we'd post some picture updates of Owen and his new swing and bouncer. They are great entertainment--the swing is great at rocking him to sleep, and he loves staring at the waterfall on the bouncer and kicking the bird and monkey!





Owen has also been taking a lot of naps with daddy...



And he finally got his picture taken with Dr. Murphy (although he was a bit out of it at the time!)...

First Well-Baby Visit

We just got back from Owen's 2 week well-baby visit with his pediatrician. He's up to 8 lbs 12 oz, so has grown which is a great sign. They told us they want the babies to have at least gained back their birth weight by their 2 week visit, so we're above that by 5 oz and he's in the 50th percentile for weight. We're very happy with him being average when it comes to that! Not much other news to report from the visit. We got the two thumbs up to give him a bath, FINALLY, so he'll be soaking in the tub come this afternoon! Otherwise, Owen handled the needle stick like a champ (a few tears, but that was to be expected), and the rest of the time was totally alert and sucking on his pacifier while he was poked and prodded...gotta love the paci! :-)

Visitors

Don't know exactly where the days are going, but Sunday will be two weeks since Owen was born...it's felt like a LONG two weeks and like it's flown by at the same time. The past couple of days O has been on a much more regular, eat/sleep schedule of every 3 hours, so last night we actually got some sleep ourselves too and are finally starting to feel a bit more human again!

Today, Uncle Jeff B, Auntie Julie, and cousin Eli came over for a visit and got to meet Owen for the first time. They also came bearing gifts of a swing and a bouncer, which we quickly put together and tried out--Owen LOVES both of them and has snoozed in each already! The swing was part of a present from "the Gang" (all of Allison's aunts, uncles & cousins), and the bouncer was from Eli and J/J. He's also become quite fond (especially in the wee hours of the night :-) ) of the musical crib mobile--it's also GREAT at putting him to sleep, as you can see from his sprawled, hands-up in the air position while sporting the blanket his Grandma Franny made for him! Also some new pics from when Grandma Linda was visiting, and some more random ones just for kicks, including the beginning of smiles, or it could just be gas!

Monday is O's first official pediatrician baby check visit, so we'll post more then...

No Sleep for You!

Last night was our worst night yet...Owen was up pretty much all day yesterday, wanting to eat about every hour (yes, he's a milk machine!). You would THINK that because he was up most of the day he would sleep more at night, right? That's what we thought too...but come 3:30 am when I'd been up with him eating every hour, I realized this was not the case. And now, at 1:00 in the afternoon, he's totally crashed out. Go figure!

On a positive note for all of you future visitors, Drew has discovered that the guest bed in his office is VERY comfy, as he got a good night's sleep after he decided around 2:00 am to make a break for it and go sleep in the other room! :-)

A Random Assortment...

Thought we'd post some pictures from the past week...a couple of days before Owen (bottom picture) and after. The quilt Owen's sporting for his car ride home from the hospital is all fire trucks and firemen, made by Allison's mom's friend Sharon. Owen also had his first "sponge bath" today. His cord hasn't come off yet, so he's not able to have a real bath until it does, but he enjoyed the baby tub and getting to play in his hoody towel. As you can see in the pictures, he LOVES his hands...sucking on them, tugging on his ears with them, and holding them together. Allison's mom has been here since Monday, which has been a HUGE help. It's so nice to have someone to cook for us, do the laundry, and hold the baby when we need a break! :-)

Time flies!

Tomorrow Owen will be one week old, which is hard to believe. He's been busy eating a lot, sleeping, and pooping up a storm! On Wednesday, our pediatrician circumcised him...a much more traumatic experience for Drew and I than I think it was for him. He seems to be doing well, and hopefully his "unit" will be perfect once it heals! :-) We also had our well-baby hospital visit yesterday. Owen is now back up to 8 lbs, which is great. He has been gaining 3 oz a day for the last couple of days, so if he keeps it up he'll have surpassed his birth weight by his 2 week pediatrician appointment...yes, he definitely likes to eat!

Above is the picture that was taken when we left the hospital on Wednesday. It's one of the few pics we've gotten with his eyes open, so I thought I'd share. He has his moments (few of them though...) where he's WIDE awake, but they usually happen at about 4:00 in the morning--not exactly a time when we think to grab the camera! Last night when this happened we tried out his crazy crib musical mobile from Grandma Linda, which kept him occupied for a good while. Who knows what will work tonight!

Welcome to the WORLD, Owen...

Owen Max was born on Sunday, March 2nd 2008 at 3:04 p.m. via emergency c-section.

8 lbs 7 oz
20 1/2 inches long

So far, he's been amazingly mellow, and we're totally in love with him! We're home from the hospital, and are working on getting some much-needed sleep...he had his first pediatrician's visit
this afternoon, where he was circumcised (a traumatic but necessary experience for all), and is starting to gain back some of the weight he lost after he was born. We're all doing well, and Drew and I just can't get over the fact that we actually get to keep this little guy! :-)
